The wines of Pierre Gonon are some of the finest of the Northern Rhone. World demand is high, and we have a tiny allocation of the 2023's about to land. We have put some restrictions on to share these around a bit. The Feray is essentially young vines Saint-Joseph and drinks so well over the first 5-8 years in bottle. The Saint-Joseph Rouge is truly a wonderful wine, that starts to come into its own at around 7 years of age and continues to develop for many more after that. The Blanc is a rich, layered and enthralling wine.
Classic to the core, the 2023 Saint-Joseph used 80% whole clusters during fermentation. Linear and precise, it dazzles with a complex aromatic profile, bundling pencil shaving, crushed violet, red plum and black cherry alongside peppery undertones. Hitting the medium-bodied palate with utter refinement, the 2023 is shaping up to be yet another outstanding Saint-Joseph from the talented Gonon brothers. (Drink between 2028-2038)92-94 points. Nicholas Greinacher, vinous.
