Many of you know Federico as the winemaker at Le Bèrne, his family’s estate in Montepulciano. Whilst tasting there today he showed us a special wine, the 2022 Le Viole. It is off a Sangiovese vineyard he purchased in 2021 that is close to 100 years old. He has made this wine blending in a small portion of old vine Trebbiano, all Montepulciano fruit. The wine was hand de-stemmed and fermented and aged in concrete. It is simply gorgeous, with perfumed berry fruits, rose petals and licorice notes. It is full and unctuous through the mid-palate, silky of texture and so fresh and expansive, with length to burn. This is special wine. JH 2025
