1964 Chateau Lafleur Petrus Grand Cru Pomerol

The 1964 La Fleur-Pétrus is another Pomerol that I have tasted before, only once, to the best of my memory. This bottle seems a little lighter than the 1964 Feytit-Clinet that precedes it. Black plum, desiccated orange peel and sous-bois scents, almost pastille-like in terms of purity. This is elegant and shows its class. The palate is medium-bodied with admirable flesh and depth, considering it is now 60 years old. Powdery tannins are almost citric towards the finish that lacks a bit of sustain. It's a fine, mature Pomerol, albeit not one that deserves reams of superlatives.
92 points. Neal Martin, Vinous.
