1962 Gaja Barbaresco

1962 was Angelo Gaja’s first vintage that he produced on his own at the famous Gaja Barbaresco estate.

Pours out quite light and clear with a bricking at the edge. The nose starts off with some leather and meat. It is very much tertiary and has notes of decaying rose, truffle, moss and teak too. It is silky in the mouth but has presence. Tannins have all but folded into the wine and there's saline minerality. There's balsamic tang at the end and persistence. The wine is more than just a curio; it is a thoroughly engaging bottle of perfectly mature Barbaresco. JH 2026
