The current strength of the $AU vs the Euro and some good ex-cellar pricing from Jean-Claude Boisset means that we can offer you some outstanding value white and red Burgundies from the 2008 line-up.
Winemaker Gregory Patriat (ex Domaine Leroy) is very excited about his 08’s and justifiably so, we think they are the strongest brace of Boisset wines that we have seen in the 5 years that we have been dealing with them.
Respected Burgundy critic John Gilman quotes ‘"I have never tasted in twenty-odd years of visiting Burgundy, a vintage of young red wines as pure as is the case with the 2008 reds, and their combination of stunning fruit purity and remarkable transparency makes it one of the most exciting vintages for red Burgundy in recent memory". We worked our way through some pre-arrival samples over the weekend and have to agree with his statement. The red wines are bristling with energy, have real focus and cut and are loaded with vibrant red fruits. If pushed to compare with another vintage there seems to be elements of 2001 and perhaps 1993 about these wines, they are classic in every sense and should reward cellaring.
The white wines also seem to have done well from the Cote de Beaune with lovely minerality and tension but quite rich fruits sheathing their rigid spines.
The Deal: We are offering the following wines on pre-arrival terms with delivery expected late June 2010. Some wines are in limited supply and will be allocated on a first in best dressed basis. Click here for an order form. www.dortodoor.com

2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Blanc (Screwcap): There’s a nice mineral base here upon which zippy lemon flavours play. It is fresh, vibrant and utterly refreshing with enough depth on which to age over the next couple of years.
Normal price per bottle: $26 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $19
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset St Aubin 1er Cru ‘Remilly’: Complex aromatics of green apple, oatmeal and white peach. It is rich, quite powerful and textured with plenty of spice and good minerality. There’s a chalky/dry extract feel to the finish and this is wonderful value for money behaving much like a high quality Puligny.
Normal price per bottle: $49 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $39
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Rouge (Screwcap): Compote of summer berries greets the nose and it is laden with raspberries, cherries and strawberries in the mouth. Flavours are nicely trimmed with earth and it finishes with mouth-watering acidity.
Normal price per bottle: $26 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $19
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Santenay 1er Cru ‘La Comme’: There’s a serious core of dark plum fruit here along with all sorts of enticing minerally things. It has real depth and class and is nicely balanced, finishing crisp and slightly chewy. An absolute steal and should be an absolute ‘ripsnorter’ with 4-5 years bottle age on it.
Normal Price per bottle: $49 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $39
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru ‘La Dominode’: Fruit from Bruno Clair’s 100+ year old plot was brought in to make this delicious wine. There are purple flowers, earth, liquorice and cherries on the nose. There are rich, sappy fruits in the mouth overlaying a rocky base and it finishes with an almost audible snap. We are buying several cases of this for home drinking, as it is such superb value.
Normal price per bottle: $49 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $39
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Beaune, 1er Cru ‘Greves’: As is often the case this is the largest scaled wine in the Boisset line-up from 08. It is big and brawny with ripe fruits and some serious muscle. Despite its size, there’s great purity of fruit and it possesses outstanding length leaving a seriously earthy footprint once swallowed.
Normal price per bottle: $69 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $55
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Volnay 1er Cru, ‘Carelle Sous la Chapelle’: Absolute text book Volnay here with its scent of violets and crunchy red fruits. It is a sensual, silky wine with real depth and personality. Flavours are so pure and there’s great transparency.
Normal price per bottle: $69 Pre-arrival price per bottle: $59
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Charmes’: One of our favourite wines from Boisset certainly does not disappoint from 08. There’s real cool fruit elegance about this wine and it is so pretty and feminine that you tend to overlook how substantial and powerful it actually is. There are notes of purple flowers and cherries and it has a lovely stony minerality. The texture is fine and lacy and flavours fan out at the finish leaving an intoxicating perfume in the mouth.
Normal price per bottle: $110 Pre-arrival price per bottle: $89
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Les Cazetiers’: This is one of the stars of the 08 line-up, it is floral and rich with loads of sweet cherry and plum fruits. There’s ample structure underpinning the energetic fruits and it finishes with super cut and drive.
Normal price per bottle: $110 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $89
2008 Jean-Claude Boisset Clos de la Roche: Pretty and understated with plenty of latent power. There are floral notes and the fruits are intense but with a certain lift. Is going to need some cellar time to reveal its true potential but impeccably balanced now.
Normal price per bottle: $199 Pre-Arrival price per bottle: $149
Wines that we didn’t taste but will be shipping on Gregory’s recommendation;
