2016 Ellena Giuseppe Barolo La Morra DOCG
2016 Ellena Giuseppe Barolo di la Morra: Fruit comes off three plots in La Morra. Half of the wine is aged in larger oak, half in barrique. It is all French oak and mainly older wood. This is classic tar and roses Barolo. 2016 is all about balance, perfume and precision and this is a wine that has all these traits in perfect harmony. It is delicious now but will age effortlessly for a decade or two.
A word about 2016. During our recent trip to Piedmont, we tasted a smattering of ‘16’s and spoke in depth with the vignerons of the region about this vintage. Luca Currado from Vietti and Fabio Alessandria from Burlotto indicated that 2016 was one of the greatest vintages for Barolo that they had encountered. Luca has already placed multiple orders from his contemporaries for as much 2016 Barolo as they will sell him.
