2014 Domaine de Sulauze ‘Les Amis’ Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, France 85% Syrah (Serine, small berry ancient Syrah), 15% Grenache Noir. Serine planted from a selection massale cuttings of Côte Rôtie.
The Syrah undergoes a cold soak during two days followed by whole-bunch, carbonic maceration for two weeks in stainless steel tank. Traditional vinification for the Grenache.
After fermentation is completed, the wine is transferred to large wooden foudre for 9 months of élevage. Bottled in the spring following harvest without SO2.
It has an excellent nose of fresh berries, stalks, white pepper and earth. It is bright and juicy in the mouth. Fruit flavours are front and centre and tannins are gentle. There’s crisp acidity to the finish. A delicious dry red to slurp down over the next couple of years.
