The 2013 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Langhe Rosso is a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. It is a pure and traditional wine that has spent 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks and 12 months in bottle before release. The nose is vibrant and perfumed with notes of violets, black cherry, tobacco and earth. It has excellent depth of fruit in the mouth with crunchy red fruits mixing it up with some darker plums. There's a suggestion of licorice and plenty of savoury nuance. The finish has crisp acidity and length is good. This is a brilliant vintage with Antonio Galloni noting "In many cases, the 2013s remind me of the 2008s, but with more depth, better balance and more consistency."
